Fitness For Children – And So Much More

“It takes a village to raise a child.”
African Proverb

Parenting is a big job. For a child to grow into a healthy, well-adjusted adult, a whole community of people needs to be involved. The community is there to pick up the slack when the parents are tired and to provide different life lessons in a safe environment.

Atlanta Kick is part of your village.

The AK instructors understand the challenges families face during childhood years. AK’s team of friendly staff is here to provide a place for children ages 3-14 to discover the best versions of themselves, helping your child:

  • Develop social skills and make new friends
  • Learn self-defense
  • Grow into their personality
  • Work on discipline, focus, and device distraction
  • Build their self-confidence
  • Understand behavioral issues
  • Learn how to handle bullying
  • Get more physical education than school provides

Children are always learning, and as sometimes-overwhelmed parents, you might feel like you could be doing more. But remember – it takes a village! Let the strong Atlanta Kick community of coaches, kids, and families provide an enriching environment that’s supportive, positive, and fun.

Join Our Karate Family

We have over 26 years of experience handling hyperactivity, tantrums, playfulness, pouting, and all the highs and lows kids experience. We’ve taught thousands of classes over the years, so we know that every family is special and every child is unique.

We offer age-specific programs tailored to your child’s developmental needs along with leadership and growth opportunities in our STORM team (Strategic Team of Role Models). Our instructors partner with kids to offer support and motivation that carries over from karate lessons to home life. Your child will learn martial arts skills like patience, respect, and confidence that they can use outside the dojo.

The AK team is proud to be a trusted resource for so many Atlanta parents.

Please contact us to check out our facilities and get a chance to meet our instructors, kids, and families. We look forward to meeting you!

“The instructors at Atlanta Kick are phenomenal. My son has been taking karate for over a year now and has grown so much…the instructors also teach softer skills through weekly ‘mat chats’ focusing on values and character development such as perseverance, determination, self-discipline, and bullying.  Through the guidance provided in these mat chats, my son has been able to approach several situations at school differently, turning a couple of difficult situations into opportunities to practice these new skills.  This has been a huge boost to his self-confidence…and he attributes his actions to guidance provided by Mr. Hampton during the mat chats! We have been extremely pleased with the instructors and the overall program at Atlanta Kick and we would strongly recommend it!”

Little Dragons program: Ages 3-4

We like to keep things simple and fun for the little ones. Your child will train in an environment just right for them with age-specific instruction and the opportunity to work on their independence and confidence.

Samurai Program: Ages 7-9

Middle childhood comes with a host of new growth opportunities and changes in your child’s development. They express their thoughts and feelings more readily and begin to show less focus on “self” and more concern for others.

Experts in the field of child development stress that children aged 7-9 should have one hour or more of daily physical activity. We work to advance your child’s needs by focusing on concentration, perseverance, courage, and skill technique. Your child will feel comfortable and more capable of achieving excellence in a group of peers.

THE PROCESS:
Attend two classes each week. Students practice new skills in their first class and earn a stripe in their second class. Earn all eight stripes to qualify for promotion to the next belt. Attend the test to demonstrate the appropriate skills and earn the next belt level.

CLASS FORMAT:
During class, Samurai students focus on eight advanced skills specific to each belt level. We run a warm-up, deliver a mat chat about the skill, and run two or three skill-building drills. Students practice their skills in their first class of the week and are tested on them during their second class. We finish every class with a fun game leaving students excited about their next class.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ADVANCEMENT:
There are nine belt levels in the Samurai program. At each belt level, your student must demonstrate the required skills of their belt rank. A cycle runs for eight weeks, and students earn one skill-specific stripe per week.

Juniors Program: Ages 10-14

The pre-teen and teen years are challenging. Shifting hormone levels and rapid brain development can mean depression, anxiety, and eating disorders. Teens also face social pressure around drug use and sex as they start making independent choices about friends, sports, and school.

Students at Atlanta Kick support each other like family. We provide structure and positive influences on making good choices. Our instructors treat your teen like their own, investing in your child’s success. This program builds physical fitness, mental toughness, and emotional intelligence.

CLASS FORMAT:
We use a rotating curriculum that allows all students in a class, regardless of rank, to work on the same material at the same time. Students move through different material together in two-month cycles and test at the end of the cycle if approved.
